This panel will explore the studio approach as it relates to creative arts therapy. Facilitators operating three diverse programs based on a studio model will discuss their approaches, perspectives, and challenges in placing the emphasis on a studio sensibility while simultaneously honoring professional ethics, precepts, and goals of therapy. Examples will illustrate how participants who might otherwise be marginalized or left out of such an experience due to disability or other social challenges, can have the opportunity to participate in the self-discovery and personal healing inherent in shared artistic expression within a creative arts therapy studio environment.

Nicole K. Brown, MA, received her master’s degree in art therapy and counseling at Southwestern College in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Katie Hall, MA, LMHC

Katie Hall, MA, LMHC, is an artist and art therapist with a master's in art therapy and counseling from Southwestern College. Stephen Legari, MA

Stephen Legari, MA, received his master’s in creative arts therapies from Concordia University in Montreal. He works as an art therapist with at-risk youth in an outreach high school and with a diverse population in a community open studio. Stephen is a faculty member of the Montreal Institute for Developmental Transformations and has also been a practicing massage therapist for over 10 years.
