Music, Sound, and Yoga in Trauma Recovery

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

We are saddened to learn of the sudden passing (10-18) of our colleague, Louise Montello, DA, MT-BC, LP, LCATTo honor Dr. Montello's work, memory, and longterm commitment to the success of the Summit, members of the Summit faculty have joined to offer this daylong master class on this topic of Louise's special interest.

The voice is also a mirror of the soul, a vital link between psyche and soma. In this daylong Master Class, we will examine how expression can be inhibited by unresolved trauma, and how this inhibition can wreak havoc in the mind and body. We will explore natural vocal expression through playful warm-ups, conscious breathing, relaxation, yoga asanas, and basic singing techniques. Trauma themes will be examined through musical storytelling, vocal improvisation, and drumming. Special attention will be given to assessing strengths and weaknesses of traumatized individuals; the effects of early trauma on the nervous system; contraindications for uncovering/releasing techniques; the use of music, sound, and yoga in daily life as an integrative, empowering force during recovery. No singing experience or musical background is required.
