Emotional Healing through Hand Papermaking

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

The dynamic process of hand papermaking takes the artist through cycles of deconstruction and reconstruction while providing a safe container for therapeutic experiences and emotional healing. In this daylong Master Class, participants will learn about the history of hand papermaking, gain experiential understanding of its therapeutic processes, and leave with practical tools for incorporating this ancient art form into modern-day clinical practice. Participants can expect to dip their hands into the papermaking process and explore various techniques for creating and activating paper made from clothing. The facilitators will share how they have adapted this modality for a variety of settings and populations to include adult veterans of war, inpatient adolescents with depression, anxiety, and eating disorders, and at the bedside with medically hospitalized children and teenagers.

Please Note: There is a $20 materials fee for this session. Wear comfortable clothing that you won’t mind getting a little wet. Closed-toed shoes with good traction (rubbers or light rain boots, particularly) are recommended since floors get wet during the course of the papermaking process.
