ROOM 809This workshop will present an overview of non-directive play therapy. Non-directive play therapy is an effective, developmentally appropriate approach to working with children. For expressive arts therapists, possessing a basic knowledge of the non-directive approach may enhance the therapeutic process, particularly with younger children, as the integration of skills can help establish rapport, support emotional development, build self-regulation skills, and facilitate the child's expression. Specific strategies, including describing the child's actions, identifying and naming feelings, and therapeutic limit setting, along with other play based interventions that support self-regulation, will be presented didactically and through video examples. Participants will also be given the opportunity to practice the skills in small groups.
