Music therapy and mindfulness groups help those who engage in them cultivate self-awareness, empathy, and confidence. This process also provides a forum for self-expression, experimentation, and mutual celebration. From the energetic release of group rhythm-gathering exercises to contemplative instrument playing and meditation, those who participate in this workshop will have the opportunity to experience these benefits for themselves. Additionally, it will provide them with a task structure and theoretical framework that they can apply in their own practices.


Leigh A. Kirby, MS, MT-BC

Leigh Kirby, MS, MT-BC, BM, is the co-founder and executive director of Alice’s Encore, which offers group music therapy and mindfulness program in Rochester, NY. She is also a self-employed music therapist/piano teacher, and adjunct faculty member in the creative arts therapy program at Nazareth College. Megan Mae Smith, MA, MT-BC, is a music therapist in Rochester, NY. She is the co-founder and executive director of Alice's Encore, an organization dedicated to providing music therapy and mindfulness groups to under served children, families, and adults. Megan's clinical and research interests also include mental health and medical settings.
