Emaciated Imagination: Disordered Eating and Symbolic Expression

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

ROOM 710

Eating disorders are disturbances of relationships: Relationships to others and the environment, to oneself, to one’s emotions, and to one’s needs, desires, and imagination. This three-hour workshop explores the symbolic nature of eating disorders from a personal, familial, cultural, and environmental perspective utilizing a Jungian and depth psychology framework. This workshop gives participants didactic, experiential, and interactive experiences in exploring one’s imagination through abstract images of Self within an environment. The importance of context and symbolic function in attachment ruptures, trauma, and recovery is discussed as well as the meaningful treatment of such symptoms through a symbolic, image-based means.

NOTE: This workshop is geared toward the advanced, experienced creative arts therapist. All level practitioners of arts therapies and other mental health professionals are welcome, but should keep this in mind.
