Creative Containment for Difficult Feelings in Trauma-Informed Drama Therapy

In this experiential workshop, participants will explore the concept of aesthetic distance and projective techniques often used in drama therapy to create safety when working with children and adults who have experienced trauma. Projective techniques such as symbol, metaphor, poetry, and improvisation will be investigated through the CANY method of trauma-informed drama therapy as ways to help clients experience a safe container for diverse and difficult feelings, experiences and thoughts.

Meredith Dean, RDT, LCAT, CASAC, is the program director at Creative Alternatives of New York, where she works with adult and child survivors of domestic violence, trauma-affected adolescents, and at-risk youth. Heidi Landis, RDT, CGP, LCAT, PAT, is program director at Creative Alternatives of New York.
