Creative Group Approaches for Managing Pain and Enhancing Connection

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

ROOM 809

This is a mixed group experience that begins with a body/mindfulness exercise followed by individual free artistic expression and small-group interaction with focus on giving and receiving interpretation of the individual works of art. A visual artist and integrative health practitioner on our team developed this exercise for chronic pain sufferers in order to encourage meaningful communication and increased social connection, which will lead to an improved sense of well-being. Creative arts stimulate oxytocin production and neuronal growth which helps members to focus inwardly thus encouraging deeper sharing with other group members. The group experience will be followed by didactic information and discussion on the principles of neuroscience with emphasis on neurobiological explanations for promotion of neuroplasticity. With this information, attendees can see how neurobiology of the brain leads to growth and healing and indeed supports a whole new paradigm shift (new explicit awareness) leading to the subjective experience of increasing wholeness, stability and resilience.
