Environment as Self: Creative Arts & Ecopsychology in Central Park

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Depart from 8th floor lounge in ECC

James Hillman wrote, “the ‘Bad’ place I am ‘in’ may refer not only to a depressed mood or an anxious state of mind; it may refer to a sealed-up office tower where I work, a set-apart suburban subdivision where I sleep, the jammed freeway where I commute between the two.” This experiential workshop will provide participants with antidotes for this type of everyday “psychic numbing” and disconnection that many of us experience in hectic urban environments. Together we will walk to Central Park and take time to connect to the earth and nature through artmaking, dancing, and creative writing outdoors in the park. The session will end with a processing of our experiences, a discussion about creative arts therapies applications of ecopsychology, and a closing ritual that we will co-create.

NOTE: It will be November in NYC, so please dress appropriately for this outdoor session. We're aiming for "shine," but be prepared for rain.
