ROOM 715

Since the Sandy Hook school tragedy, the Emerald Sketch team has provided consistent art therapy to the community of Newtown, Connecticut. With the rise of such violent incidents in the United States, many communities find themselves in need of a program that addresses their trauma and shock. In this workshop, discover how to mobilize a clinical team that informs the community of the immediate benefits of art, music, and movement therapy following a human crisis or natural disaster. In the experiential demonstrations in art and music therapy, participants will first explore the process from a community member perspective, and then engage in a psychodynamic discussion on how this Trauma Paradigm works from a clinician perspective. The presenters will address the critical needs of traumatized communities, and discuss methods to survey civilians to assess their individual needs.
